The quarterly award winners listed here were nominated by our staff and suppliers for going the extra mile, and assessed by a panel of judges from across the business.

Wellbeing

Andrea Mikulova of Incentive Lynx Security goes out of her way to proactively meet the needs of occupiers, providing a happy, helpful and professional service both to the many businesses and people who have recently moved into The Leadenhall Building and also to our existing occupiers.

Dana Ferens of Broadgate Estates received multiple nominations for exceptional communication and customer focus during a major refurbishment at 338 Euston Road, Regent’s Place. Dana engaged with existing occupiers, new firms moving into the building and fit-out contractors to make the process run as smoothly as possible for everyone. She has also worked hard in setting up the newly refurbished Yalding House.

Emma Edwards of Broadgate Estates has developed a strong working relationship with occupiers and local partners on security at Paddington Central, establishing a Security Forum and achieving our highest ever Emergency Preparedness Audit Score. Emma is part of a strong team who scored 94% from occupiers for whether they feel the campus is better managed now than under the previous managing agent.

Debbie Owen, Travel Coordinator at Meadowhall, negotiated a month’s free public transport for 760 retail staff to encourage them to leave their cars at home. 75% of those surveyed continued to use public transport after the trial, benefiting from a 50% annual discount Debbie secured with First Group. Debbie has also gained funding for new bikes and a cycle hub. Thanks Debbie for your energy, expertise and commitment, supporting sustainable travel and active living.

Elaine Moore and Ronan Campbell at Lisnagelvin came to the aid of a vulnerable teenager who was disoriented and distressed, calming him down, buying socks for his bare feet, giving him a warm drink and talking with him. When they managed to make contact with his mum through the local church, she thanked them profusely for the kindness and care shown to her son.

Rebecca Slow at St Stephen’s has added ‘miles of smiles’ with little acts of kindness, including 200 free bags of daffodil bulbs for children to give to their mums on Mother’s Day, after our gardeners mentioned that we had spare bulbs. Earlier acts of kindness included free car park tickets and free Chocolates-on-Tuesday.

Future proofing

Tony van der Vliet at St Stephen’s was the driving force behind the recent installation of 1,100 photovoltaic panels, now generating enough clean power to fulfil a third of all electricity demand in the common areas. Tony also leads the Centre’s award-winning efficiency programme, which has reduced landlord energy by 40% since 2010, saving occupiers £383,100 and cutting carbon emissions by 2,470 tonnes. Other innovations include a rainwater harvesting system that provides over one million litres of water each year and a food-to-water treatment plant that recycles 15 tonnes of food waste annually.

Brian Mountford of Broadgate Estates at 155 Bishopsgate has repeatedly driven energy reductions, engaging with occupiers and identifying and implementing savings opportunities, setting himself the target of reducing consumption by 18 million kWh compared to 2009. An outstanding achievement, especially when compared with other properties that have more sophisticated energy management systems.

Community

Ron Donald of Laing O’Rourke at Clarges is actively involved in community projects and manages logistics on a tight site with military precision to be considerate to neighbours. He’s helped refurbish a local garden, supported work experience for local people and managed social events for the site team and neighbours. Colleagues say Ron’s motto is ‘if you have a good idea, be brave and see it through’. This was certainly the case when he heard that a member of the public had collapsed nearby, he immediately took the project defibrillator and helped give CPR until the paramedics arrived. Thank you Ron.

2016 PIP

Duane McCreadie and Gavin Williams of Wates Construction contributed to our 44/50 score on the Considerate Constructors Scheme at 4 Kingdom Street, Paddington Central. Together, they’ve built strong community links and championed local procurement and employment, including a charity barbeque for Pursuing Independent Paths (PIP), meet the buyer events for local businesses, work experience for a PIP student with learning difficulties, and special access to our cranes for London Fire Brigade to deliver driver rescue training.

BL Pride

Special mention to Dave Carlos and Charlotte Hopkinson of Jones Lang LaSalle who provided incredible support to BL Pride, our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender and Allies Network, helping us find our footing, inviting us to all their big diversity events and introducing us to their contacts.
